The minting of map coins will continue. This tendency is indicated by the new Turkish coin of 1999 with the shadow of the solar eclipse by the relief map of Turkey and on the coins for the Olympic Games in Sidney in the year 2000.
It is also indicated by some map coins which may be named millennium coins to celebrate the transition from the second to the third millennium. Already the first coins show very different map coin designs. Already in 1996 the Bahamas minted a first set of millennium coins. One side shows the portrait of Queen Elisabeth, the other side portrays the distorted, but recognisable world on a conch shell, the early symbol of the Bahamas. A new millennium coin of Great Britain has the Queen's later portrait on one side. On the other side it shows the face of a clock; its hand starts from the center at Greenwich on a map of the British isles; its arrow points to almost midnight, the turn of the millennium.
