These are the archived pages of the project e-Learning in the Environmental and Geosciences 2006-2008. You can access the e-learning modules created in the course of the project here!

The third DAAD Winter School "e-Learning in the Environmental and Geosciences" will be held at the Freie Universität Berlin from Sunday, January 13 (day of arrival) to Sunday, January 27 (day of departure), 2008. The principal objective of this School will be to finish the content generated by all participants and to integrate it in the joint e-Learning environment for shared use (release of the web presence is planned in spring 2008).

The central topics of the forthcoming workshop will include:

  • Conceptual enhancements and completion of our common e-Learning environment for the Geosciences by using a CMS;
  • Advanced e-Learning knowledge, skills and techniques;
  • Quality in e-Learning and Quality Development of the joint e-Learning web presence;
  • e-Learning Didactics and Improvement of the joint e-Learning web presence;
  • Dealing with Web 2.0 /e-Learning 2.0 and discovering its possibilities;
  • Basic tools for future networking and exchange of e-learning modules (incl. materials, didactics and techniques);
  • Latest developments in Environmental and Geoscientific Research, principally by the Department of Earth Sciences at the Freie Universität Berlin.
The conference language will be English. The total number of participants will be approximately 25 earth science educators from diverse countries. The DAAD Alumni are coming from Ethiopia, Cameroon, Botswana, Kenya, Sudan, Tunisia, Mongolia, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Cuba and other countries.
The structure of the third Winter School "e-Learning in the Environmental and Geosciences" will again include a mix of plenary sessions and project-oriented group work, with emphasis on the latter. In the plenary sessions experts will present various aspects of e-learning, followed by discussions. The practical training includes computer sessions with CMS, interactive items and podcasting and is largely supported by tutors. The results of the Winter School – in the form of e-learning projects designed and created by five groups (see programme below) - will be made available on the Internet so that participants can use and develop them further.
